On April 6, Easter Sunday will be celebrated by many people by hosting parades and family cookouts and Easter egg hunts.
Many people don’t know the reason of why or the history of Easter, some people think it’s about bunnies and marshmallow chicks. The reason why Christians celebrates Easter is because it is the day that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. However some believe the holiday originated from pagan influences. The meaning of Easter is different to everyone depending on their belief or just how they look at it.
“Easter is the most important holiday for Catholics like me,” junior Mateo Rosiles said.
The origin of the word Easter can go back to Hebrew and Greek but the meaning means “Passover”. Easter is also the oldest and most celebrated holiday by most Christians because it is the most important time for them. Before Easter comes there is always a time called holy week which is the time before and after the crucifixion of Jesus. That week is meant for reflecting on yourself and making changes that will improve your way of life and morals.
“Lent is important to me and it allows me to reflect on myself,” Rosiles said.
Easter also marks the end of lent which is a Christian time period that is forty days long and meant for fasting. Usually some people give up a bad habit or add on something good to their daily lives during the time period to try to better their lives spiritually and mentally.
“I don’t celebrate lent but during the time I stay away from anything that will distract me during this time,” William Lee said.
The main reason for Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ because he died for others so that they might have eternal life with him in heaven.
