LHS colorguard 2020 production
The Lubbock High Colorguard held a showcase of their winterguard 2020 production, “Around the Campfire” on Tuesday, Feb. 25 in the big gym.
This year’s production is a lot more intense than anything they have done in the past years. The production features a strong weapon line and a scary setting.
“My inspiration for this performance came from the music we are performing to,” Kyla McCutcheon, the head director of the team, said. “I loved the music and the theme just fit in really well.”
Leading up to the performance and upcoming competitions, there were a few roadblocks, but it was nothing the team couldn’t handle.
“I was a little nervous to teach the flag feature just because it was harder work than they have done before, but I just had to trust that these kids would work to get whatever I threw at them,” McCutcheon said.
The team worked very hard to get where they are and showed real determination to put on the best show they could, with this production being drastically different from last year’s theme, “Self Love.”
“It’s a fun twist on the usual stuff you’ll see in color guard,” junior guard member, Saidee Hannel said.
The coaches had full faith in the team this year and never doubted that they could pull together and play the parts needed.
“I think it’s a really creative idea. It’s a really fun, kind of dark idea and I love dark ideas for shows because they’re the most emotional that we can get into,” Hannel said.
