The Lubbock High Varsity Volleyball team played Abilene Cooper High School for senior night and won in only three sets. This secured the second district win for the Lady Westerners, making them 2-9 in district play and 8-24 for the overall season. This year, the team consisted of sixteen players, nine of whom were seniors, this will make for a big transition going into next season. Creating multiple leadership roles that need to be filled, the future will rely on the younger varsity players to ensure success next year.
The volleyball game was a celebration of the hard work and dedication that the seniors put into their volleyball and academic careers over the past four years. When asked what their favorite memory from the past season was, senior middle blocker Laura Johnson said, “ beating teams that the team has not beaten in a long time and proving people in Lubbock wrong”. And senior setter Kaia Garcia said, “On the way back from Denton, some of the girls sat in the back of the bus and we laughed our butts off ”. Thank you to all the senior volleyball players for their commitment and positive representation of Lubbock High School during their time on the volleyball team.
