Both the boys and girls wrestling teams have had a good season so far. The boys team placed third at a few tournaments and got first place at the matador classic. Both the boys and girls teams have been invited to wrestle at the state duals in Wichita Falls. There are several wrestlers ranked in the top ten, including returning state champion Maddie Pena.

The wrestling teams have a goal to finish their season in third place at districts and fifth place at regions. They hope to finish in the top ten at state and take home several individual medals.

Both the boys and girls teams have worked hard to achieve their goals. The head coach of wrestling, Coach Leal said, “I’m really proud of the way the wrestling team has competed and represented Lubbock High this year. They’re a bunch of hard working and humble warriors, and I’m proud to be in their corner.” Senior Maddie Pena added, “Wrestling impacted my life in more ways than I can count. It has taught me that no matter how many times you get put down, fight back up.”
