LHS Golf has had success with students shooting their personal best scores in recent tournaments, and the varsity team placed second in the Canyon Fall Invitational.
As the season has progressed, students have demonstrated their determination and perseverance.
With some challenges at the beginning of the season these students have shown progress with each tournament. Coach Trevino motivates his students and reminds them to play to their strengths when they get nervous.
“They find a way to hit the shot they need to and always look on the bright side of things.” Coach Trevino said, “I tell them to have fun and play their game.”
Golf has recently finished the first of two seasons. They are currently in off season for the semester because the weather is starting to get colder, and will be starting back up in tournaments in the spring.
In preparation for the spring season, students will be doing more workouts and conditioning. This allows students to stay in shape because when the spring season starts students will have to be walking courses a lot, so it’s important that they have conditioning to back that up and maintain their endurance.
The change of seasons does force the students to adjust their playing style and be more aware of the mechanics of the ball as the grass is starting to die, making the ground harder. Wind also plays a huge factor in golf, especially with it becoming stronger in the spring.
LHS Golf has been doing some fundraisers in an attempt to raise money for the team.
More recently they did a fundraiser at Blue Sky Texas. After people ordered their food, they could mention that they were supporting Lubbock High Golf and a portion of their total would be donated to the team.
Money raised from these fundraisers goes to buying snacks and drinks for players during tournaments along with new apparel, and equipment like rangefinders and balls.
