The powerlifting program is set to begin what is hoped to be a memorable 2025 season later on this week. With a lot of youth incoming and also plenty of returning talent.
The team has been practicing since early January and the first meet is set for Thursday afternoon. This is a girls and boys activity where boys compete against boys and girls against girls.
The lifts included in powerlifting are 2 leg stations and one arm station with it being bench press for arms, squat, and deadlift for legs. You get a total of 3 sets and from there it’s who’s the strongest at those three categories. The judging is based on overall performance and not just how good you are at just bench, squat and deadlift.
If you’re really good at two of these lift, but poor at another, it can really hurt you. They have a total of 3 meets throughout the rest of the school, and one for the postseason.
The coaches of the powerlifting team are Coach Fregia and Coach Hamer.
Powerlifting is destined to do great things this season, but everybody involved in the program knows that there is a lot of work needed to be put in, in order to accomplish what their biggest goals are.
