Many of the Lubbock High Gymnasts are disappointed about the upcoming closure of the gymnastics team. Will Brackeen says “Although I’m a senior so it won’t affect me, I wish the gymnastics team was still happening next year.” The closure of the team is happening for many reasons. Next year there will not be gymnastics. The gymnastics team opened many opportunities for travelling and building friendships. Paige Brackeen says “Although I’m sad that it is ending, I am grateful for the many opportunities I got and the family that was built.” Many gymnasts said farewell to gymnastics in their last meet however, Will Brackeen still has a chance to make it to state. Gymnast Jeremy Morrison said he joined simply because he liked to do flips. “…I ended up loving it. Practice is of course not the easiest but I love it.” Coach Sanderson has coached for multiple years. As a former Westerner gymnast he feels strongly about gymnastics. Being the only team in the Lubbock area this team has grown a bond like no other.
