Hadlee Nichols, a junior here at Lubbock High School just received the highest honor you can have in boy scouts, she was able to get her Eagle Scout by doing a project in her community. When asked how she felt about getting her Eagle Scout, Hadlee was very happy.
“I feel very accomplished, I feel proud of myself, my hard work, it took a lot of hours”
Her project was to build trailers for the VCT, or the Vocational Transition Center.
“They’ve hosted a lot of our scouting and troops events, it’s basically a home for the scouts, the people are always welcoming and the place is comfortable”
Hadlee wanted to give something back as they have done so much for her.
She decided to join Boy Scouts because of her brother and she always wanted to follow in his footsteps, girls were able to join Boy Scouts in 2018.
“When I first started out, I thrived in my troop and I enjoyed the community and outdoorsy stuff”
Hadlee’s favorite part of being in scouts is the people that are also involved in scouts.
“I would definitely say the friends I make and the community I have in the program, the program provides many opportunities you wouldn’t get at schools. You learn survival and camping skills.”
When asked how Boy Scouts is preparing her for the real world, Hadlee replied
“Scouting teaches you time management and commitment, being an Eagle is not an easy feat, with volunteering and paperwork, you learn time management”
Hadlee is wanting to still pursue this goal after high school as Eagle Scouts is such a huge part of her life.
“Yes, I’ve grown up and mentored these girls in multiple ways, they are basically my second family and I live for what the scouting program is for”
