Six outstanding AP/IB students showed up and showed out at the Science Fair.
Ruhan Reddy (11), Vadant Patel (11), Raaghav Randana (11), Nathan Huang (11), August Ramsay (11), and Felipe De Farias (11) are the lucky winners that represented Mrs. Teaff down at the science fair.
Felipe did so well that he was able to surpass all other levels of the competition and now gets to travel all the way to Columbus, Ohio for the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).
Students get the opportunity to compete at local, regional, state and national levels with fairs affiliated with the Society for Science.
Experiments ranged from measuring endurance in players to early research into potentially curing prostate cancer. The intelligence of those kids is off the charts.
Sitting down and interviewing them revealed motivations that extend far beyond the reaches of the scientific method and the advancements of certain fields.
“I lost my grandma last Christmas to alzheimers.” Ruhan Reddy said. His experiment involve the detection of alzheimers through machine learning. This motivation, along with everyone elses, allowed him to get a 93.5% detection rate of alzheimers 10 years before most people would diagnose it.
And the companionship between members is wonderful to see as seniors continue to encourage freshmen in wonderfully impactful ways.
“I’m a ninth grader and I want to learn and get better.” August Wilson said, “I see guys like this and I’m like ‘I gotta get on that level’”.
Mrs. Teaff and the entire student body is hopeful that these fine men will succeed and represent us down the road in amazing ways.
