Lubbock High’s orchestras performed incredible pieces at their Annual Ice Cream Social!
Beginner groups, JV, Varsity, and Chamber came together for their introductory concert to kickstart the year with pieces such as Free Spirit and Carmen Fantasia. Parents were invited to watch their kids perform and talk to Lubbock High’s conductor, Mr. Anaya. After the initial performances, everyone gathered around to eat ice cream, talk, and socialize.
With big groups such as orchestra, Mr. Anaya creates events such as the annual Ice Cream Social to allow parents and students to get a sneak peek at what the rest of the year will be like. It’s a fun and showy event that gets people excited for more concerts and other activities that the orchestra can provide. This event was open to all people, and current non-orchestra members were invited to see what the class had to offer. Performers, parents, and incoming students all had fun during the concert and the ice cream event.
Violinist and Chamber Orchestra member Seonho Choi says that “the ice cream social was a great event for parents and students to become familiar with the orchestra.” Seonho, who also goes by Kyle, is in ninth grade and felt that that event was a nice transition into high school and orchestra for both his parents and himself.
Lishan Prado, a proud member of the Varsity Orchestra and also a freshman, was in awe of the Chamber Orchestra’s performance of Carmen Fantasia, commenting that the piece “sounded really good, and they all moved in sync.”
Overall, the Orchestra’s annual Ice Cream Social event was a huge success, and it was the collective works of the students, parents, and Mr. Anaya allowed for a great gathering!
