Lubbock High Band students showcased their musical skills at the TMEA Area auditions, showing the talent and dedication within the school’s band program. Students demonstrated extraordinary skills and dedication earning several top spots. All the students that auditioned were Oliver Flores, Caden Flowers, Brenlee Guerrero, Carson Hickman, Elijah Jones, Naomi LaFlette, Ysenia Sanchez, Toby Tiner, and Matthew Vaca-Tovar. Among the top auditioners was Elijah Jones, who made it to the All-State placement. Elijah Jones is an accomplished Euphonimum player, who has made a coveted spot. He will record another audition at Amusement Park Recording Studio where he will be judged against the top performers from different TMEA Areas to determine his chair placement in All-State Band. Reflecting on his experience, Elijah said, “It was really fun, scary, and exciting at the same time.”
Clarinet player Carson Hickman shared his feeling about the TMEA Auditions saying, “It felt really awesome.”
Ysenia Sanchez, another clarinet player shared her experience saying, “ It was a very good experience because I was with all my friends in band.”
Another student, Naomi LaFlette, added,” It was really nerve racking, and a lot of pressure, but it was satisfying.”
Band Director Mr. Bayless was really proud of all of the students that put in a lot of work towards these accomplishments, stating “ I am certainly proud of all their hard work and talent, but I am more proud of the professional and classy way they conduct themselves when representing the Westerner Band.”
