Blossom and Bloom is a club formed at Lubbock High to help the community, and make the general atmosphere of the school more relaxing and beautiful. The club is mainly focused on growing and cultivating plants such as flowers, possibly vegetables, and trees, in hope to make the school image better by growing plants around the school.
The student sponsor , eleventh grader April Izaguirre, and the club hope to be able to decorate the school and help LHS science teachers. She started this club to be able to have something special that she could give the school, before she graduates in two years.
The goal for Blossom and Bloom this year is to build a good community where any student and where students with mental health issues, like anxiety can feel safe and have a good outlet for stress. Some other goals for the club this year are to grow different plants like vegetables and trees. Although this hasn’t been confirmed, she wants to be able to grow vegetables either for the dining hall to use, or for our LHS culinary classes to use. April says, “We’re going to plant the trees, and we’re going to take them to a local park and ask if we could plant it there.”
Blossom and bloom hopes to achieve these goals by raising money in our very own LHS Bake sales. They want to raise money for extra seeds, and for other supplies they might need for the greenhouse. The club is also thinking of holding a fundraiser to get the goods they need.
They typically meet in Mr. Harpers room, room 1507, but they do spend a lot of time in the greenhouse on the west side of the school. Depending on the circumstances Blossom and Bloom gets together every other Thursday, and occasionally on Tuesdays. April says, “It depends on what’s needed and what’s important.”
