Varsity Football made history during homecoming by breaking the 2-8 curse for the first time since 2001 with a new record of 3-1!
Braiden Dunkerson, Denzel Robbins, Malik Conwright,Derek Torez, and Yael Ontiveros are names that will surely ring in Westerner history for lifetimes to come after a successful game at PlainsCapital Park. The Varsity Football team of 2024-2025 has done something simply miraculous.
“We’re really just trying to change the culture.” Braiden Dunkerson said.
From the moment the Westerners entered the field it was doomsday for the Chiefs. With Braiden Dunkerson scoring the first touchdown of the game and winning the Westerners the score board.
“Winning is fun,” Malik Conwright said. “We gotta keep our heads up.”
After this, Malik Conwright would be the second to score an incredible touchdown with the blockers making sure he went all the way. Continuing the trend of racking up points Derek Torez would also gain some points in yet another spectacular touchdown.
“It felt like I wasn’t going to score,” Derek Torez said. “And then it just kind of happened.”
Going into the end of the first half, another miraculous 50 yard field goal was completed by Yael Ontiveros.
The second half, Lakeview had a good run, but in the end it was the Varsity Football Team of 2024-2025 that made sure the Chiefs knew their place in the end zone.
“Going into district, we just gotta hold ourselves up and be ready for anything.” Braiden Dunkerson said.

Super proud of the young men changing the culture at LHS. I am a 2001 graduate who was a member of the football team. Go westerners
