The Westerners played Monterey last friday in hopes to regain the Spurs, a long standing tradition between the two schools, but unfortunately did not succeed as we lost with a score of 70-7 with Monterey keeping hold of the spurs.
Lubbock High last played Monterey in 2021 and have not had the Spurs since 2007.
“I feel like we could have, as a whole, did better during the game. Defensively, we didn’t do our assignments and Offensively, we had trouble getting started. We will learn from it and get better”. Said Senior Bryson Garza.
Sin’Cere Perez, 12, felt like the team could “improve on our defense and our basics but we have to improve on becoming closer as a team so we can win more games”.
Unfortunately, it has been 17 years since Lubbock High has had the Spurs, but the team is hopeful that Lubbock High will get them back.
Junior Hector Torrez thinks “that we will be able to get the Spurs back because we will come back better and stronger and we will be capable of beating them by playing together as a family”.
Congratulations to Freshman Bo Davis for being able to play on the Varsity team, what an honor! When asked what it’s like being a Freshman on Varsity, Bo said “It’s really exciting and the energy is better than the freshman games and it’s more competitive”.
Even though this game was a loss, the football team is constantly aiming to become better as a team.
We are so proud of them, Go Westerners!
