The Rough Riders spread joy at competitions all year around. The group consists of juniors and seniors who each dress up and at football games or other school events, hype the crowd up and cheer the team on. Most often they’re found at football games ringing bells and running flags before chanting and cheering with the cheerleaders to excite the crowd and show support for their team.
The group has been a part of Lubbock High for so long, dating back a few years, recruiting new members each year and sending others off to college as well with a good memory of their school. Over the past year, the group has been able to participate in multiple football games and pep rallies, though only a small few of them ever travel out of town with the teams.
“We don’t get our own achievements, really, but we’re there to cheer on other teams when they get theirs” Says Jessica Ochoa, a member of the Rough Riders.
Considering the group’s wonderful outfits, each beginning of the year they come together to have a party and paint their clothes for the year with decorations and whatever the person doing it wants their designs to be. Rough Riders are often dressed head to toe in an outfit that displays their school spirit.
While the group may not earn achievements or trophies through competition, they’re there for other teams when they earn theirs, able to cheer them on and enhance the experience for both the audience and the team members.
