Here at Lubbock High School, students who are interested in art have many opportunities to expand their creative boundaries.
Their first year students will take art that goes over the basic skills. Their beginning assignments start off as straightforward tasks and the expectations of their works are all the same. As the student’s years into the art class further extend, so does their availability to artistic freedom. Meaning the longer or higher they are in the class, the less they will have to be told “what to do”and the more they will be able to make up their own imaginative designs. Their lessons become more vague and highly rely on their use of creativity rather than standard capability.
Every year, the dedicated art students will participate in Scholastic’s Arts. Over the course of years there have been multiple talented students here from Lubbock High who have turned into national winners in these competitions.
Currently in Mrs. Peanick’s class, her students are making collages on huge pieces of paper. They get to be innovative and make whatever designs they want. It is fascinating looking over the student’s artwork and designs. You are truly able to see the differences in each of their characters as people and none of their works look similar. If a student is even a little interested in taking the art classes at Lubbock High, it’s highly suggested that they should as they may improve their skills and creativity in more ways than they ever thought they could.
