Top 10 Spooky Cinematics

Now that the month of October has arrived, I’ve decided to rank my personal top 10 favorite Halloween/spooky movies I like to watch while hanging decor and sipping pumpkin spice lattes.

10. Monster House

As Halloween approaches, 3 kids are on a mission to destroy the neighbors house, which they believe to be alive and harmful, before it devours the oncoming trick-or-treaters. This movie used to horrify me as a kid but was always a classic to watch around Halloween time.

9. Hotel Transylvania

Count Dracula runs a hotel for monsters only and invites creatures to celebrate his daughter, Mavis’, 118th birthday. Though complications occur when a human discovers the hotel and ends up falling in love with Mavis. This is a cute movie that always puts a smile on my face.

8. Halloweentown

Halloweentown is a Disney original movie about Marnie, a teen girl who just discovered from her expert grandma witch that she is a witch as well. Marnie follows her grandma back to the supernatural community of Halloweentown in order to fight the evil that’s threatening the future of their world. I look forward to seeing this movie all year long as Disney only plays it during October.

7. Twitches

Twitches is also a Disney original about witch twin sisters, Alex and Camryn, who don’t know of the existence of each other until they are reunited on their 21st birthday. Together they use their powers to defeat the forces of darkness in order to save their families kingdom. This is one of my favorite Disney original movies not only for the fact that Tia and Tamera star in it, but because the power of sisterhood always gets to me.

6. Coraline

Coraline is about a young girl, Coraline, who just moved into a new house and finds a secret doorway leading to a parallel universe. There lies her fake family with sewed on button eyes and creepy creatures in her neighborhood. Her fake family tries to keep her there forever and she has to find a way to escape back to the real world. Coraline is a creepy claymation that gives me chills every time I watch it.

5. The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion is about a real estate agent, Jim, who takes his wife and two kids on a family vacation. They make a pitstop at a mansion that Jim is interested in selling. The family discovers the mansion is haunted and has to escape while also helping the spirits of the mansion break a curse. Eddie Murphy stars in this spooky comedy that has always been a childhood favorite.

4. Ghostbusters

After a group of scientists team together as The Ghostbusters to catch paranormal creatures in New York City. They come across another dimension that will ultimately release all supernatural into the city and work to stop it before it destroys their home. Ghostbusters is an obvious classical comedy that all ages enjoy.

3. Edward Scissorhands

Edward Scissorhands is about a man named Edward… who has scissors… for hands. He is created by a scientist who dies before finishing Edward and is later found and taken in by a suburban mom, Peg. In his new life, he finds love in Pegs’ daughter but still struggles with being an outcast. While some may consider this movie more for Christmas time, this movie is always a must-watch due to its mysterious plot which is heart-wrenching at the same time. Plus, any movie starring Winona Ryder is worth the watch.

2. Hocus Pocus

After just moving to Salem, a teen boy, his little sister, and a new friend accidentally release three evil witches into their town. Together, with the help of a magical cat, the three kids must work together to steal the witches book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal. This Disney classic is a top movie on many people’s lists during the Halloween season and can never be forgotten.

1.Beetlejuice

After the owners of the house, the Maitlands, die in a car accident they are stuck haunting their home. Unable to scare away the new residents, the Deetzes and their teen daughter Lydia, they seek the help of Beetlejuice, an unrestrained spirit who begins to become dangerous to the household. Though Beetlejuice himself terrified me as a kid, I’ve always had a love for the movie, and of course, Winona Ryder.

I highly recommend watching all 10 of these movies during the great month of October and many months after. Enjoy this Halloween and stay spooky!
