Today marks the 62nd annual Silver Spurs game between the Lubbock High Westerners and the Monterey Plainsmen.

The first Silver Spurs game was on November 11, 1956. Lubbock High was the only high school until they built Monterey in 1955. In the spirit of friendly competition, the two schools put a set of silver spurs on the line, with the winner taking possession of them for the entirety of the year.

This tradition continues tonight at Plains Capital Park at 7:30. Go out and support your Westerners and the new coaching staff, as they try to bring the spurs home for the first time in over a decade.
