Coming off last season, finishing third in district, the Lubbock High girls’ basketball team has many new challenges this season. Head coach Brent Palmer is ready to head into one of the top districts in Texas.

“We are in a totally new district this year we have nine teams in the district, it’s going to be very, very tough, competitive. It’s one of those deals where you’ve got to really win your games at home and try to sneak a few off the road. We have a really good group with our varsity and if we can stay healthy, I feel like we will be right in the mix,” Palmer said.

Coach Palmer gets a lot of energy out of the girls and everyone is working hard.

Last year, Lubbock High girls beat Monterey and Coronado in the same year, which had never been done before in school history.

“From a confidence standpoint it will give them a lot of confidence knowing that they can play with Monterey and Coronado. Also knowing that they have not beat them before last year, so I hope that gives them some more confidence going into this season,” Palmer said.

Lubbock High beat Estacado last night, 60-56. They open district play next Tuesday against Monterey, 6 p.m. at home.
